"trouble at mill"

there doesn't seem to be any evidence of the origin of this phrase on Mr Google which is not such a problem in itself, do we have to know the meaning of everything? is teh net obliged to fulfil our (or, in this case, my) every quest for knowledge and understanding?it does seem clear that the phrase has its background in Lancastrian factory history as opposed to that of windmills or watermills

.
.
thoughts of both of which caused my mind to wander and Mrs G Image to triumph once again producing for your visual satisfaction a certain Windy Miller and a Constable mill. . .

needless to say, all this subtle humour on a midweek morning is just a mere distraction from the topsy turvy world that exists within the walls of iTowers today, where siblings relations are not as happy as portrayed in the story books. . .
*sigh*

Whatever the situation that seems to have things topsy turvy, I hope they right themselves quickly and that you have a good day.

Peace

Our neighbour - in fact our doctor - has kids about the same age as your younger two. When the need arises she makes them write down their grievances vis-à-vis each other in a cahier de doléances. I don't expect this does all that much good, but I have to say we don't often hear them exchanging finely-honed insults preparatory to kicking each others'
heads in.

It's really simple.

Try using the phrase with the siblings--and when they look a bit lost, play the Monty Python sketch--after all....I shouldn't have to suffer through it alone.

Besides....NO one expects the Spanish Inquisition!

*Laughing!*

JUST a suggestion!

I would've thought the phrase had its origins in Lassie movies.

"What's that girl?"

"Woof!"

"Timmy's in danger? There's trouble at the mill?"

I hope the siblings settle down quickly so you can have peace in the home.
I was just thinking, in story books, a lot of sibling relationships aren't detailed much. Apart from the two with the wicked stepmother and Cinderella and her step sisters that is. One wonders!
