anyone out there have a calculator?

today I have to feed 12 starving hungry boys for £12
Teen Too (you remember: 6'2" at the age of 14, handsome beyond belief with a jawbone to die for, slender as a willow but bulking up, top of the year two going-on-three years in a row, totally adored gorgeous polite diligent thoughtful child, probably soon to go the way of his elder brother) rows for the school on a Saturday - it's a new thing for his school, and they need lots of parental support in many ways; seeing as catering is one way in which I can make a contribution, I recently stepped up to help feed the rowers after their three hour first thing in the morning slog up and down the river (altho I'm not so keen on the first thing in the morning bit, you understand). . .
.
since I didn't actually go out with the twelve pounds in my pocket and I already knew what I was going to serve up, here's what I have produced and I'm wondering how much it's actually going to cost me per child
tomato soup
half can per boy @ 78p per can
12 plastic cups @ £1.45 for 25sausages in buns*
24 chipolatas @ £2.98 per dozen
12 crusty rolls @ 99p for four
12 chocolate muffins
2 eggs @ £2.15 per half dozen
half packet flour @ 49p per packet
half packet sugar @ 73p per packet
half packet butter @ £1 per packet
(I threw in the other ingredients, since I already had them in the cupboard)
squash
I bottle squash £1.09
12 plastic cups @ £1.45 for 25
fruit
orange segments @ £2 for a bag of five
half bananas @ £1.39 for seven

I know that I probably should have bought CupaSoup for the soup, but Teen Too (a boy of very limited experimental taste when it comes to food - I was amazed when he told me he'd been drinking other mother's soup!!!) likes the good stuff (Heinz original); and, I was advised against the fruit, but this week's New Scientist said we should actually be eating eight portions a day rather than the currently recommended five so I thought I'd try and do my bit for the boys' health. . .

*and if anyone can come up with a better image for "sausages in buns" that's neither rude nor untasteful, I'll gladly pop it in (see, rudeness already) (how shocking!)

Above and beyond.

Could you consider catering for my choir? We don't sing any songs about sausages in buns (are there any?) so no need to fear the taint of moral corruption. Perhaps you could quote, as soon as someone's lent you a calculator?

Yes, I have a calculator.
No, I'm not going to do the math.
Yes, you ROCK to serve 12 healthy boat rowers so creatively and so well.
NO I will not google 'sausage in buns'....tyvm for that tip!
YES, there's a horsie stuck to that lady's cheek.... Whazzup with that...... :-/

Can ya tell I've been working from home already this morning? LOLOL

Mel you know, I thought you might be tempted to work it out for me. . . but I kinda knew that actually you'd have FAR more important things to do!!

as for the donkey, ask Himself about Muffin The Mule (it's a little before my time, but I've heard the stories. . .)

Christopher I would so love to be charged with that responsibilty! just imagine the food I could prepare and serve. . . so much more interesting and tasty than a snack for rowers!! if someone was to sponsor my travel and lodging expenses, I'd be up for it. . .

(-;

shot squash. . . a rather yukky but essential sugary fruit flavoured water based drink for thirsty children who for some unknown reason won't just drink water!!

*laughing*

And here I thought you were makin' those poor kiddos eat squish (the veggie) outta a plastic cup. I kinda wondered about the spoons required for that--and what they went for.....which is about where I stopped doing the math in my head.

*laughing*
No worries then--you still maintain your standings in the 'cool mom' club. :-D

no spoons required! altho one boy did ask for a napkin. . .

. . .his mates told him to "man up"

ha ha ha

(poor thing!)(I had thought about napkins, but those, surely, would have totally blown my budget - I figured they could just wipe their hands on their trousers, being boys 'n' all)

I hope you had a calculator.
I couldn't have done all that without one! Did you really fed them all? Wow!
Wow! again.
Is that really Muffin the Mule and is the lady with him real? She looks a little like a spitting image character.
