Day is dawning and I must go
You're asleep but still I'm sure you'll know
Why it had to end this way
You and I had a groovy time
But I told you somewhere down the line
You would have to find me gone
I just have to move along

When you wake I know you'll cry
And the words I wrote to say goodbye
They won't comfort you at all
But in time you will understand
That the dreams we dreamed were made of sand
For a no-good bum like me
To live is to be free

Just another town, another train
Waiting in the morning rain
Look in my restless soul, a little patience
Just another town, another train
Nothing lost and nothing gained
Guess I will spend my life in railway stations
Guess I will spend my life in railway stations
.
THE MIGHTY SWEDES

There are some railway stations I can envisage you haunting and others where it's not so easy: Marylebone and Paddington, yes, maybe Charing Cross, but definitely not Waterloo or Liverpool St. Euston? Mmm, not sure. I don't expect you agree.

I would so much like you to write a totally imaginary autobiography.

gosh I'm thick sometimes...I spend more than the expected time searching for a band called "The Mighty Swedes".

shot you were looking for Swedes the nationality, not swedes the root vegetable? that might help!

on the other hand, you may be able to cast your mind back to when I was in the band and wanted to sing an Abba song* and was told by another of the singers "I'd rather shag a dead policeman than sing a song by The Mighty Swedes"

on a more nostalgic note, that song was on one of the first albums I ever owned. . . I still remember the order, it was preceded by Ring Ring and followed by Honey Honey

*the song I wanted to sing is this one:

"When you were lonely, you needed a man
Someone to lean on, well I understand
It's only natural
But why did it have to be me?

"Nights can be empty, nights can be cold
So you were looking for someone to hold
That's only natural
But why did it have to be me?

I was so lonesome, I was blue
I couldn't help it, it had to be you and I
Always thought you knew the reason why
I only wanted a little love affair
Now I can see you are beginning to care
But baby, believe me
It's better to forget me

"Men are the toys in the game that you play
When you get tired, you throw them away
That's only natural
But why did it have to be me
Falling in love with a woman like you
Happens so quickly, there's nothing to do
It's only natural
But why did it have to be me?

"I was so lonesome, I was blue
I couldn't help it, it had to be you and I
Always thought you knew the reason why
I only wanted a little love affair
Now I can see you are beginning to care
But baby, believe me
It's better to forget me

I used to stand at the mike and sing it in breaks during rehearsals. . .

Mel hmmmmmmmmmmmm

Christopher naturally, I have already 70,000 words of that book. . .

as for the stations - definitely not ChX. . . I once had a job at Victoria, on a midnight shift, selling croissant - many fine tales connected with that. . . and some not so fine

my station of choice, regarding memories, is Gare du Nord

but that's another blog entirely

Mel and still not Viva Las Vegas!! (altho, now I'm humming "why did it have to be me")
