erm, so. . .

NaCl (that's salt for those of you who didn't concentrate in chemistry)
so there we have it! salt! apart from the fact it's not as simple as that, because not only do we have salt, but now we have kosher salt. . . let's just take another look at the situation shall we? here's some salt:
and here's some kosher salt:
now, my dear friend shot introduced me to the concept of kosher salt (click the link if you're still unclear) and it shone some light on the situation for me! and my new understanding also explains why, when I was living in Manhattan, one of my friends was able to cook beefburgers on salt but when I returned home the recipe never quite worked out for me. . .

and of course there's coarse sea salt for those who don't think the kosher grain size is large enough...and let's not even start on those fancy black lava finishing salts (and the like)

I'm a sea salt and kosher salt user, ty.

Carry my own sea salt grinder--which is why you'd never wanna be whapped by my purse. ;-)

we have a carryable pepper mill which we take everywhere, in the car, but always forget to bring into restaurants with us. Oh we could be so pretentious if only we had better memory.
And I always use the pyramid shaped salt crystals (Maldon Sea Salt - I don't know if there's another brand like that).
